Stuff the Sleigh on Fox61 Good Day Connecticut
December 13, 2016
On Tuesday, December 13, our Director of Community Engagement, Maura Cook, was featured on Fox61's morning show - Good Day CT - with anchor Amanda Raus to talk about United Way Stuff the Sleigh.
Why this matters:
Ensuring kids succeed in school starts with making sure they’re present every day. Yet, when the temperature drops, absenteeism rises, putting them at risk of falling behind.
Children who have warm winter accessories are more likely to attend school in the winter.
How you can get involved:
United Way is asking community members to help keep kids learning by donating new hats, mittens and gloves for children, grades K-3, to support United Way Stuff the Sleigh. The goal is to collect 5,000 new winter accessories for children at various schools throughout central and northeastern Connecticut. Collected donations will help ensure that more children go to school even on the coldest days of the year.
Individual and group donations should be dropped off at United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut (30 Laurel Street, Hartford) on Wednesday, December 14 and Thursday, December 15 anytime between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. In addition, United Way is seeking a few more volunteers to sort and deliver donations on Friday, December 16. Transportation will be provided for deliveries.
With help from Stuff the Sleigh volunteers and donors, United Way and its partners will continue to raise awareness about the importance of attending school every day and break down the barriers that prevent students from getting there.
