United Way's workplace campaign has been called one of the greatest social inventions in American history. Working together with local employers, our United Way invites people to improve the lives of children and families, and create opportunities for a better life for all through volunteering and participating in the annual giving campaign.
What is a workplace campaign?
A workplace campaign is an organized, company-sponsored fundraising drive that makes it easy for employees to give – through payroll deduction. A gift can be made over the course of a
year or at one time, raising funds for a variety of nonprofit organizations including local programs and initiatives that are supported by United Way Community Investment.
Campaigns also educate employees and organizations about community issues, connecting them with their community and allowing them to make informed decisions.
Why run a campaign?
The United Way Campaign is really about what the dollars raised mean to our community and the difference made locally through gifts to Community Investment. It represents the generosity of a diverse community coming together to create measurable, lasting change and a better place to live and work for us all. The real success is not always measured by the number of programs and initiatives funded, but by the number of lives improved. That's what it means to LIVE UNITED.
In 2015, 400 local workplaces and 30,000 donors participated in our United Way Campaign – the largest United Way annual fundraising effort in Connecticut and the second largest in New England – to make opportunities possible for children and families in our 40-town region. Together we raised more than $22 million for our community. This included gifts from more than 2,500 Leadership Investors, each generously giving $1,000 or more to the campaign.
