After a divorce, Johannie went from being married with two daughters and feeling like she had everything, to navigating life as a single mother. She struggled to make ends meet and ending up losing her home, all while fighting to keep up with her rising medical costs due to Multiple Sclerosis.
Through United Way’s Volunteer Budget Coaching program, Johannie learned to develop a budget, track her expenses and create short- and long-term financial goals. Over time, she went from living in a friend’s basement, to renting an apartment, to now owning a home.
“I learned a lot about discipline and worked really hard to use all of the tools the program gave to me to help me organize and prioritize my finances,” says Johannie. “I was shocked at how quickly I was able to achieve my goals. And I don’t want to stop there. I have a lot more that I want to do!”
