In response to the transportation needs of young adults who are in or entering the workforce, United Way’s Hartford Working Cities initiative has launched 860Rides, designed to improve access to reliable transportation for employment. As part of our broader commitment to reducing disparities in wages across the 860 region, this program aims to remove a critical barrier to job access and retention, while enhancing workforce participation among our region’s young adults ages 16 to age 29. This fund provides an opportunity for municipal or nonprofit agencies to provide direct financial assistance to eliminate transportation barriers, ensuring people can get to work on time and manage other essential responsibilities. Support will be available to individuals referred to United Way by select strategic partners. This year, we are prioritizing collaboration with existing workforce partners and municipalities within our service area to better support young adults.
Please note: United Way can only provide assistance through referrals from our partner organizations or partner municipalities. We are unable to offer direct assistance to individuals who contact us without a referral.
Organizations or municipal agencies interested in partnership should review the MOU below. The funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the following organizations who played a vital role in creating and launching the 860Rides initiative. Your vision, collaboration, and commitment to removing transportation barriers have made a lasting impact on our community. Together, we’re reducing regional disparities in wages, one ride at a time.
