In response to the 10 percent rise in people in our region experiencing homelessness, United Way is mobilizing people and resources through our Rapid Response Fund. Our goal is to keep people secure or stabilize housing.
Cities and towns in United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s service area may apply to receive Rapid Response Fund resources by clicking the link above.
Dollars given to the United Way Rapid Response Fund will help ensure that people have a safe and stable place to call home this winter. Please join us in helping our neighbors this winter by making a gift.
The following towns have signed up to participate in the Rapid Response Fund so far:
Coventry, Ellington, Enfield, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, Newington, Rocky Hill, Scotland, Somers, Suffield, Tolland, Vernon, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor, and Access Community Action Agency (servicing the towns of Andover, Ashford, Bolton, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Columbia, Coventry, Eastford, Hampton, Hebron, Killingly, Mansfield, Plainfield, Scotland, Stafford, Sterling, Willington and Union)
United Way 211 – Visit 211ct.org or dial 2-1-1 then press option 3 if you or someone you know is currently or at-risk of experiencing homelessness. Note that 211 does not refer people to the Rapid Response Fund
United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut is partnering with municipalities to help residents get resources they need with the Rapid Response Fund.
• If you live in our 56-town service area, please contact your town’s Social Services office or Town Hall to learn more about next steps.
• If you live outside our 56-town service area, please contact your local United Way to see if assistance is available in your community.
• United Way can only provide assistance through referrals from your city or town – we cannot provide assistance to people who contact us directly.

United Way is activating its 860Cares project to restock the pantries after Thanksgiving. On December 4, 2025, volunteers will be working to restock pantries across East Hartford to support individuals and families in need. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with family and friends, and support our community together.
