860CARES COMMUNITY PROJECTS

United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut is offering the following off-site volunteer projects with community partners who help end homelessness.

Available Projects:

  • Mon., April 21 | 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
    The Salvation Army, New Britain CT
    Seeking a group of 10 volunteers to beautify and clean the shelter on the outside of the building.
  • Tues., April 22 | 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    Friendship Service Center, New Britain CT
    Seeking a group of 15 volunteers to clear out former shelter rooms to make space for a family lounge.
  • Tues., April 22 | 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    Journey Home, West Hartford CT
    Seeking a group of 12 volunteers to pick up and deliver furniture to people moving out of homelessness into stable housing.
  • Thurs., April 24 | 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    Windsor Housing Authority, Windsor CT
    Seeking a group of 10 volunteers to host a breakfast and distribute toiletries to veterans experiencing homelessness.
  • Fri., April 25 | 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
    South Park Inn, Hartford CT
    Seeking a group of 12 volunteers to landscape the property where the shelter is located, including cleaning up, removing weeds, planting and mulching.

860CARES KIT PROJECTS

United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut is offering kit projects including items needed by people experiencing homelessness or living in affordable housing communities. Your group can schedule these any time in April 2025.

United Way staff will facilitate this volunteer experience at your place of business (or elsewhere) for groups of 10-30 employees.

  • Option #1: Emergency Preparedness/Homeless Outreach Kit
    Toiletries, socks, reusable water bottle, first aid kit, snacks, Chapstick and seasonal gear
    $15/kit | Volunteers assemble 8-10 kits/hour
  • Option 2: Home Essentials: Kitchen Kit
    Reusable tote bag, dish towels, sponge, dish soap, trash bags, paper towels, wipes
    $20/kit | Volunteers assemble 8-10 kits/hour

Please identify a first and second choice for project preference. Projects are on a first come, first served basis. United Way will follow up with a confirmation email and a registration link within three to five business days.
