The Salvation Army Southern New England Division

“ Andy,” a 20 year old young man, entered our shelter last summer after escaping a very abusive living situation. He was kicked out of the house by his father who then moved to North Carolina with his siblings. His mother was living in an elderly home. At the time, he was unemployed and had no transportation and without any means of support. As a result, he ended up sleeping on the streets of New Britain for a little while before being identified by an outreach worker and referred to shelter through the Coordinated Access Network. During his stay at the shelter, Andy was able to obtain employment, saved some money to purchase a vehicle, and ultimately secured a second job. With transportation and two income sources, he was able to transition from homelessness into a positive living arrangement with a friend.
