United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, in partnership with The Village for Families & Children, HRA of New Britain and volunteers, connect families with opportunities through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance campaign. We help individuals and families, with annual incomes up to $68,000, get ahead financially, pay down debt and work toward saving for the future. Together, we are United to End Poverty.
VITA sites will begin opening in mid to late January on a rolling basis and volunteer placement happens following training and certification (for returning volunteers – self-study and re-certification)
WHAT WILL I DO AT MY TAX SITE AS A VOLUNTEER?
• Prepare and electronically file income tax returns
• Greet filers or manage appointment schedules
• Help filers learn about ways to save and stretch their refunds
• Act as a translator for volunteers and filers
• Work with one household per hour on average

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER?
• Commit to just one, four-hour long shift per week from Mid-January through mid-April 2025 (in-person sites located throughout Greater Hartford or Windham)
• Have a willingness to help people in the community
• No prior experience required
• Spanish-speaking/bi-lingual volunteers needed
Volunteers will now upload the 13615 and their ID to a Google Doc – here is the link – VITA Volunteer Agreement Submission This should be done ASAP after certifying so we can begin placement.

NOTE: These dates are approximate. To ensure the best placement of volunteers, we request you complete the registration, training and certification as soon as you can.

Certification: Mid-November through January 2025 – As a new volunteer – certification will happen as part of the training session. We will access Link and Learn together in class.
Returning volunteers have the option to certify online themselves – both new and returning volunteers will access the certification through this new link- linklearntaxescertification.com
