Hartford HealthCare Executive to Chair $20 Million Fundraising Effort

to Support Local Children and Families

Hartford, Conn. (August 10, 2018) — Bimal Patel has been named Chair of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s 2018 Community Campaign.

Patel is President of Hartford Hospital/Hartford Region and Senior Vice President of Hartford HealthCare. In his new role as Chair, he will serve on United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s Board of Directors.

“I said yes to chairing the 2018 United Way Community Campaign because making a difference in one person’s life has the power to affect many future generations,” said Patel. “Many of us – myself included – can relate to that. I encourage our business leaders to help shape our future by giving more than a donation; their time, guidance and leadership are profoundly impactful. United Way provides the structure and processes to support building a stronger community and we have to leverage its strength, expertise and impact along with the incredible talent of our community in order to do that. United Way is finding innovative ways to solve challenging problems, and the solutions will not just affect today, but also the future for generations to come.”

United Way improves lives and empowers every family to succeed by uniting around youth success, economic mobility, access to health and basic needs – the cornerstones of a strong community.

Its annual Community Campaign offers individuals an opportunity to give to directly to United Way and to qualified nonprofit agencies. Contributions directed to United Way are used to support programs, services and initiatives that focus on preparing local children and youth for academic success, connecting people with good jobs, access to health services, and providing immediate, emergency assistance such as food and shelter.

Each year, United Way helps thousands of people and hundreds of local companies to meet their philanthropic goals. Through annual giving campaigns held in 400 workplaces, nearly $20 million was raised by 30,000 donors in 2017.

Patel follows 2017 Tri-Chairs Oz Griebel, former President and CEO, MetroHartford Alliance; Diane Nadeau, President and CEO, The Chamber of Commerce, Windham Region; and, Tim Stewart, President, Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce.

The United Way Community Campaign is the largest annual health and human services fundraising effort in Connecticut, and the second largest of its kind in New England. For more information, visit unitedwayinc.org.
