United Way Joins In Supporting Our Schools Drive
United Way of New Britain and Berlin Regional Advisory Board recently made an award to end youth homelessness in New Britain as part of a statewide 100-Day Challenge. The 100-Day Challenge in the central region had a goal of safely housing 40 homeless and unaccompanied youth aged 16-24 and connecting them to support services such as employment as well as physical and mental health services. With support of other local funders and partners Bristol Boys and Girls Club, New Britain Mayor’s Task Force to End Homelessness, the Department of Housing and Journey Home, the team exceeded its goal by housing 44 youth.

Celebrating Our Partners in Organized Labor
As we head into Labor Day Weekend, we pay tribute to the contributions made by workers to the prosperity of the United States. Our United Way proudly stands with these hard-working men and women and is a long-standing partner with organized labor. Join us for “Community Connections” on WTIC 1080 AM on Saturday, August 31, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. to learn how the United Labor Agency is partnering with United Way to promote women, veterans and minorities into the Building Trades.

Thank You: Aetna, a CVS Health Company and the Hartford Yard Goats
United Way thanks Aetna, a CVS Health Company and the Hartford Yard Goats for their support of United Way’s Stuff the Bus night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. School supplies brought to the game, along with collections by area workplaces, resulted in more than 21,000 items distributed to students in Bloomfield; East Hartford; East Windsor; Enfield; Hartford; Manchester; Newington; New Britain; Stafford Springs; Wethersfield; and, Windham. In addition to these supplies helping students start the school year prepared, they also relieve a financial burden on teachers and households struggling financially.


Volunteer Spotlight: Stanley Black & Decker Interns
United United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut teamed up with 60 Stanley Black & Decker interns to fill 200 backpacks with school supplies for students at the new Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology (MET) Academy at New Britain High School. The Academy will introduce high school students to jobs with local manufacturers and is funded in part by United Way of New Britain and Berlin Regional Advisory Board.

United Way Emerging Leaders Society Case Competition

The Emerging Leaders Society (ELS) Case Competition is back! This year there is a new challenge, a refreshed format and more opportunities for individuals and organizations to participate. The ELS Case Competition is a six-week experience in which teams develop as leaders and apply their talents. Teams will be paired with executive mentors to create and present innovative solutions for the challenges that come with an ever-changing environment. Teams compete before a panel of judges with the winning idea being tested in our region.
