We are currently recruiting volunteers for the following:

United Way Readers

November 2025-June 2026 
United Way Readers matches a caring volunteer with a student who is behind in their reading skills. We invite you to spend an hour one day per week reading with local children. In-person and virtual options available.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

November – April
VITA is a service that offers free tax preparation from mid-January through mid-April to individuals and households earning up to $68,000 annually.

860CARES

860Cares (formerly known as Year of Caring) mobilizes the community to make a difference in the lives of children and families. We are your local United Way and focus on connecting people in our community to causes they care about and helping businesses reach their goals around philanthropic giving; employee engagement; and community involvement.

United to End Poverty Month

In recognition of End Poverty Month, volunteers will have several options to give back to the community. United Way will be offering off-site community projects with strategic community partners, and care package projects focused on serving those experiencing poverty

Housing and Homelessness Outreach and Distribution Fair

Volunteers will assemble and distribute care packages for people experiencing homelessness or who have just secured stable housing.

National Volunteer Month

April is National Volunteer Month and your group can join us in forging a new path to close gaps in child literacy and household necessities. By participating in United Way’s National Volunteer Month, you and your colleagues are helping reduce poverty and co-create a community where everyone has opportunities to succeed.

June
Each year on or around June 21, United Way joins a worldwide movement to engage groups and individuals to make communities a better place through service, collaboration and impact. By volunteering, you are ensuring that every child can succeed in school and every family can be financially secure.

Care Package Assembly

Together, we are United to End Poverty by closing education gaps and providing opportunities for children to achieve developmental and academic milestones so they are best prepared to enter Kindergarten.

Read Across America Day

 March 5, 2026
Join us at Read Across America Day as we celebrate diversity while helping local children develop a love of reading. During the event, volunteers will read aloud to a classroom of local students.
