Read Across America Day

Reading at grade level by the start of 4th grade is a key milestone to future academic success and one of our community goals. One way we help children succeed is by engaging volunteers, schools and community partners in promoting children reading and loving books, especially within the years of kindergarten to third grade. On Read Across America Day, March 1st, we recruited 180 United Way volunteers to spend the morning in classrooms reaching nearly 3,500 children in East Hartford, Hartford and New Britain.
