United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut teams up with FamilyWize Community Service Partnership, Inc. to provide free prescription discount cards to the public. Locally, residents of Hartford, Tolland and Windham Counties have already saved millions of dollars.
Established in 2005, FamilyWize has helped patients save more than $1 Billion since their inception. Lowering costs helps to ensure medication is taken as prescribed, with the recommended frequency and dosage.
Doing so prevents the spread of illness, keeps chronic conditions under control and reduces absenteeism. When our neighbors are healthy, they can focus on what’s important—at home, at school and at work.
FamilyWize discount cards, which can be shared with family, friends and neighbors, are accepted at 95 percent of all pharmacies nationwide. And, discounts are applied eight times out of 10, with an average savings of $17 per prescription.
The free cards most benefit those without prescription coverage, which includes nearly half of all U.S. employees according to a March 2011 survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Additionally, FamilyWize prescription cards may lead to savings on prescriptions not covered by a health insurance plan. It is possible that residents with flexible spending accounts may be able to use the discount card to lower out-of-pocket expenses at the pharmacy.
Text “family” to 700700. You can save up to 75 percent on prescription medications for healthcare needs for children, families and individuals.
In addition to texting, discount cards may be obtained online, by visiting www.FamilyWize.org, or in person.
